Micronephthys Friedrich, 1938 is a small genus of seven taxa: M. abranchiata (Ehlers, 1913) from the Antarctic, M. ambrizettana (Augener, 1918) from Angola, M. maryae San Martin, 1982 from Mediterranean Spain, M. minuta (Théel, 1879) from the Arctic, M. sphaerocirrata (Wesenberg-Lund, 1949) from the Arabian Sea, M. sphaerocirrata orientalis Lee & Jae, 1983 from Korea and M. stammeri (Augener, 1932) from the Adriatic Sea. Two species occur in Hong Kong waters. The first corresponds best to literature descriptions of M. sphaerocirrata. The second differs from all known species in possessing two pairs of well-developed prostomial eyes. The new species is described in detail.
