Chaetopterus Cuvier 1827
Type species: Tricoelia variopedatus Renier 1804
Diagnosis of Chaetopterus : Chaetopterid with peristomium bearing palps; tentacular cirri absent. Anterior body region with 8-12 uniramous segments, except posteriormost segment occasionally with neuropodia and chaetae. Middle region with notopodia fused across dorsum forming paddles. Posterior region with digitiform notopodia.
Notochaetae lanceolate, neurochaetae thin uncini with pectinate edges. Chaetiger 4 with stout, straight-shafted, cutting chaetae. Tube parchment-like, with narrowed openings either end.
