Glycera of Family Glyceridae

Glycera Savigny 1818

Type species: Glycera unicornis Savigny 1818

Diagnosis of Glycera : Proboscis ailerons (embedded supports to 4 hook-like jaws) with triangular or deeply incised bases (not rod-like); prostomium conical, with more than 5 annulations; first two parapodial usually uniramous, followed by biramous parapodia with 2 prechaetal and 1-2 postchaetal lobes; notopodia and neuropodia indistinctly separate, notochaetae simple capillaries, spinigerous compound neurochaetae. Branchiae, if present, blister-like to digitiform to branched.

Remarks: Only three genera in family. Böggemann reduced 160 names to 36 valid worldwide, many widely distributed.
