Type species: Nereis pelagica Linnaeus 1758
Diagnosis of Nereis : Nereidid with notopodial falcigers present at least in posterior segments. Conical paragnaths only, present on both proboscis rings, variably absent from areas I and V. Notochaetal lobe absent or rudimentary.
