Carazziella of Family Spionidae

Carazziella Blake and Kudenov 1978

Type species: Polydora citrona Hartman 1941

Diagnosis of Carazziella : Spionid with prostomium rounded or incised, extending posteriorly as caruncle. Chaetiger 1 with or without notochaetae. Chaetiger 5 modified with two types of major spines, one row falcate with bristles, one row knob-tipped, with few capillary notochaetae, or these absent. Bidentate hooded hooks with conspicuous angle between teeth, WITHOUT constriction or manubrium on shaft; first appearing on chaetiger 7-8. Posterior notopodial spines present or absent. Branchiae absent from chaetiger 5, present thereafter on 6 and continuing for variable number of segments. Pygidium with separate lobes or cirri, often 4 lobes. Gut with or without gizzard-like structure.

Remarks: Similar to Boccardia, but branchiae begin posterior to chaetiger 5.
