Iberian Paraonidae collected both in the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, during the Oceanographic Cruises SEPLAT-6, SEPLAT-7 and FAUNA-1 were studied. Sixteen species, belonging to four different genera, were found. The most diverse genus is Aricidea, with 11 species in three subgenera (Allia, Acmira and Aricidea). Three Aricidea species from Portuguese waters are possibly new, been referred to as Aricidea (Allia) sp.1, Aricidea (Allia) sp.2 and Aricidea (Acmira) sp. The other genera found were Paradoneis (two species), Cirrophorus (two species) and Levinsenia (one species). Eleven of these species are new records for Portugal, extending their geographical range, and Aricidea (Allia) monicae Laubier, 1967 is newly reported for the Atlantic Ocean. The biogeography of the Iberian Paraonidae (both from the Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea) is analysed, on the basis of the material collected and literature reports. The Iberian Paraonidae fauna is compared with the Paraonidae fauna of other biogeographic regions in the world.
