 Habitat: Intertidal. Rocky shore. Soft shore. Sheltered to open beaches. Infaunal. Depth range: 0-? (m). Salinity regime: Estuary-like variation. Microhabitat:   Tube: 
Occurrence:  Consistently occurring, sometimes common. Density: 100 (m2).
Distribution in NZ: New Zealand wide
 Feeding guild: Surface deposit-feeding/herbivore.
 Diagnosis:  Genus Timarete in Family Cirratulidae.
Adult is very large. First branchiae arising from a segment anteior to tentacular filament groups; tentacular filaments arising from two or more chaetigers; Branchiae close to notopodium in anterior, shifting towards mid-dorsum in middle chaetigers. Chaetiger one has a large branchial filament. Chaetae are capillaries, with hooks beginning from c45-50 in neuropodium and more posterior (from mid-body ) in notopodium. Colour: Orange. Maximum size: 100 mm total length, mm body width.
 Notable aspect: Branchiae close to notopodium in anterior, shifting towards mid-dorsum in middle chaetigers. Chaetae in include thickened simple hooks.
