 Habitat: Intertidal. Subtidal. Rocky shore. Sheltered to open beaches. Epifaunal. Depth range: 0-5 (m). Salinity regime: Marine only. Microhabitat:  Low tide rock crevices and in turf of coralline algae. Tube: None known.
Occurrence:  Consistently occurring. Density: 20 (m2).
Distribution in NZ: New Zealand wide. Augener found it at northern North Island locations, but it occurs widely.
 Feeding guild: Surface omnivore.
 Diagnosis:  Genus Perinereis in Family Nereididae.
Proboscis area VI (lateral nearest head) with single transverse bar, area V (midline nearest head) with 3 large conicals in a triangle, and area I (midline nearest jaws) with 2 conicals in longitudinal line. Superior notopodial ligule enlarged in posterior body, with short dorsal cirrus near its tip. Colour: Dark green anterior dorsal body and head, becoming lighter green posteriorly, sometimes with a banded appeaance, and partly overlaid with yellow-green surface pigmentation. Maximum size: 60 mm total length, 4 mm body width.
 Notable aspect: Paragnath pattern on areas I, V, VI.
 Comparisons:  Confusable with P. ambylodonta but smaller and paragnath pattern distinct.
 Taxonomy:  Not recorded for Australia.
 Distribution: Offshore Chile, New Zealand.
 Biology: Little is known. Metamorphoses and swarms, breeding in spring.
